"When I walked into Bay Surgical Specialists, I was ready for a change. After yo-yoing in weight loss multiple times, uncontrolled high blood pressure, and an enlarged heart, I was ready for a tool to aide in permanency. Dr. Huguet was very knowledgeable and supportive, and calmed my fears of undergoing a major surgery. My highest weight was 364 pounds, and my height is 5'9". Although I had attended Weight Watchers on and off for years, I appreciated the 6-months of required nutritionist appointments that was mandated by my insurance company. Prior to surgery, I prepared for my future by diligently monitoring my intake, exercising at the gym, and I even purchased an elliptical. The pre-op requirements helped me mentally prepare for post-surgery. My surgery weight was 284 on March 14, 2016. Today, I weight 185. I am grateful for the support of my family, friends, co-workers, and medical staff at Bay Surgical Specialists and my primary care doctor. My entire life has changed. I am now preparing a wedding, traveling regularly, enjoying shopping, and spending time with my family."
"I was introduced to Dr. Kevin Huguet back in 2008 by way of an orientation session to find out more about types of bariatric surgery. My mother convinced me to go with her under the pretenses that it was for her benefit, however, attending that session was the first step I took in regaining control of my life. One of my earliest visits prior to surgery I weighed in at 408 lbs and I remember feeling so gravely disappointed with myself. I decided that day that I would never allow myself to feel that way again. I had my lap-band surgery in 2009 and haven't regretted the decision for one instant. Has it been easy every day? Heck no! But, nothing rewarding comes without some element of risk. Lap-band is not a fix-all solution, it is simply a tool. How the tool is used and its effectiveness is entirely dependent on you. Since my surgery I have steadily continued my transformation. I am currently down just over 180 lbs. I went from a size 30/32 to a size 14/16 however, to me it isn’t about the numbers or the loss. What matters most is actually what I have gained throughout this process, which includes a healthier outlook, the ability to experience life more fully with my son and my family, the confidence to express myself through work, style, and humor, and most of all, a reason to smile. For once in my life, my size doesn't define me; I am defined by my contributions to society and interactions with others. It is quite an amazing feeling! If you decide to pursue this type of surgery, I wish you the best success! Know that with Dr. Huguet and his team, you are in very capable hands."
